ST GENNYS is a Parish, 161/2 miles north west from Launceston, 22 north from Bodmin,11 1/2 south south-west from Stratton and 10 miles from Camelford, in the east division of Cornwall, Lesnewth Hundred, Stratton Union, Trigg Major deanery, Cornwall archdeaconary , and Exeter bishopric; it is situated on the north coast of Cornwall. The Church of St Genesius is an old stone building, in the early English style of architecture; has a nave, aisles, chancel, porch, low tower, 4 bells and font. The living is a vicarage, worth £160 yearly, with residence and 27 acres of glebe land, in the gift of the Earl of St Germans; the Rev. John Athanasius Herring Laffer, BA., is the incumbent. There is a parochial school in connexion with the church. A fair is held on July 16th yearly, for cattle and sheep. The population, in 1851, was 649 and the acreage is 5,486; the soil is clayey; the subsoil is slate. The trustees of Lord Rolle are the lords of the manor, and, with Lewis William Buck, M.P., and Robert Chichester, Esq., are chief landowners. The chief crops are corn.
