Biography* | | He was in Rowan Co, NC, by the Revolution when he appeared on a tax list as "Andrew Christy, Senr 811." In 1782, he signed a petition. (See son Andrew's biography.) In 1778, (recorded 1784) he received 260 acres from the state on Grant's Creek including his improvement, indicating he had been living there. (Grant no. 628, Book 9, p. 484.) In 1784 he is on the tax list with 260 acres. He is missing in the 1790 census. Widow Christy is listed indicating he probably died between 1784 and 1790. |

Biography* | | The 26 page document, written in 1911 by William Brown Raper, describes the death of his grandfather Joseph Christy, "My grandfather Christy was born in the year 1779 and died in October 1852, being 75 years old, was at the time of his death spry as most men of 50 years, cause of death being, while cutting broom corn in the field half a mile from his house bending the corn down and cutting towards him accidently struck the sharp point of the knife into the main artery of the thigh and bled to death before reaching the house."
In May of 1852, William B. Brown, a brother to Ann Brown, wife of Joseph Christy, writes a letter to North Carolina and paints a different picture of Joseph and Ann Christy's health, "both very much failed and much afflicted" |

This material was probably from interviews with the author Wyatt Boger's uncle, John Christy Brown, who would have been able to identify his aunts and uncles and their families. On page one, Wyatt Boger wrote, "Wm Brown, grandfather of Uncle J." The original 26-page notebook is in the possession of Win Wood, granddaughter of Wyatt Boger.

"I John Christy of the county of Greene and State of Indiana do make ordain and establish this my last will and testament hereby revoking making void and setting aside all other will or wills codicil or codicils heretofore made by me whatsoever. Item 1st I desire after my decease that my Burial be conducted in a decent manner. Item 2nd Desire after my decease that all my just debts including the expenses of my last illness as well as those of my funeral be first paid out of any portion of my personal estate. Item 3rd I will that my remaining personal estate after the payment of all claims comtemplated in the foregoing item be divided as follows towit equally between all my heirs except my son Joseph. And if such personal property cannot be so divided without prejudice to the parties I then desire that the same may be sold as such terms as will result to the benefit of said heirs and that an equal division be made of the proceeds after the payment of all just charges. Item 4th I desire that my son Joseph shall for his part have all my real Estate provided however that he remains with and takes care me in my old age, which is as follows lying in Greene County and the State of Indiana. The West half of the North West quarter of section Fifteen in Township Eight North of Range three west except twenty six acres towit commencing at the North west corner of said tract running thence south one hundred and four poles. Thence east forty poles thence north one hundred and four poles thence west forty poles to the place of beginning. And the South East quarter of the North West quarter of section no Fifteen Town eight North of Range three west ninety four across. Item 5th I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint Andrew Raper my Executor to see that this my last will and testament be carried into full and complete effect according to the true intent and meaning thereof. Given under my hand and seal this 1st day of August 1860. John his X mark Christy. Test Thomas B. Brown and Charles B. Abram".
