Joseph LaMotte, a well-known Menominee Indian,
died last Friday at the agency hospital at Keshena, where he had
been sick for some time. He was 58 years old and was considered
quite an intelligent Indian being able to read and write, etc. He
served as a private in Company I, 32nd Wisconsin Vols., during the
Civil War, and was at the time of his death commander of the G.A.R.
post at Keshena.
