Military Funeral for Menominee Veteran

Five Shawano members of the American Legion went to Gresham Friday, to help in the burial services of Frank LeRoy, a veteran of the Civil War, member of the Menominee Indian tribe.

The squad consisted of Bernard Dillett, Dave Winter, Orville Kuckuk, Walter Mason and Louis Gentz. They made up a color bearer and guard. At the grave the squad fired a salute over the casket.

The funeral was held in the Catholic church at Gresham and then the cortege went out to Red Springs where internment was made. The Rev. Fr. Grimm officiated.

Mr. LeRoy was born a Menominee at Lake Poygan and lived with the tribe long before they came to Shawano county. He lived to be eighty-seven years old. He is survived by seven children, all living on the Menominee reservation. One of his boys is Louie LeRoy, one time base-ball pitcher for St. Paul.
