Herr Wilhelm Retzloff, an early
settler of Belle Plaine died last Thursday at the age of 80 years, 6
months and 7 days. He died of old age. He was born on Sept 24 1824,
in Warnitz bie Uckermark. In 1856 he came to America and first
settled and lived in New York. From there he went to Buffalo and
later came to Wisconsin where he settled on a farm in the town of
Belle Plaine. In 1863 he was married to Marie Wegner. Through hard
work and enterprise they built a fine home and farm. He served in
the Army during the war in 1865, The funeral was on Saturday, April
1st at the cemetery in Belle Plaine. He is survived by his widow, 1
daughter, 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
