Donald R “Pete” Hanke
Donald R. "Pete" Hanke, age 85, Wittenberg, died on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born on July 30, 1921 in Wittenberg, the son of the late William and Albertina (Wolff) Hanke.
On October 30, 1943, Donald was united in marriage to Doris… at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. She survives.
Donald retired from the Shawano County Highway Department. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg, serving as Elder and member of the Men's Club. He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and was an avid sports fan following the Green Bay Packers, the Brewers and stock car racing. He also enjoyed flower gardening, trout fishing, playing sheepshead but especially enjoyed spending time and visiting with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Lorraine, Donald is survived by his children, Doris (Ron) Matz, Wittenberg, Donna Zeinert, Bowler, Diane (Paul) Wopp, Wittenberg, David (Marlus) Hanke, Schofield, Daryl (Special Friend Mary) Hanke, Reno, NV; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Mathison, Wittenberg, Jane Wendler, Wittenberg, Patsy (Larry) Seibert Winter, Wittenberg and one brother Robert (Elaine) Hanke, Neenah.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, George and Roger, and one sister, Ruth Barnowsky.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. Rev. Carl Brewer will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Wednesday, at the church, from 10:00 am until the time of services.
