INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS THIS CATALOGUE?
This catalogue is an inventory of the records and newspapers
available on microfilm from the Interloan Service Unit of the
Archives of Ontario. It is designed to enable researchers who
are unable to visit the Archives personally to gain access to our
more popular microfilm.
Please note that all the documents on the microfilm referred to
in this catalogue are in English only (except the multicultural
newspapers). If you wish to use these documents, you will have
to search for and read them in English.
HOW TO USE THE CATALOGUE
The catalogue is arranged into subject categories. Each category
has a brief introduction. The subjects are:
BIRTHS
MARRIAGES
DEATHS
MARRIAGE RECORDS COLLECTION
CHURCH RECORDS
CEMETERY TRANSCRIPTIONS
WILLS/ESTATE FILES
GENEALOGIES COLLECTION
LAND RECORDS
MUNICIPAL RECORDS
HISTORICAL ATLASES
NATIVE INDIANS RECORDS
MULTICULTURAL NEWSPAPERS
Within each subject category the entries are arranged by GS, MS
or N number. GS, MS or N numbers identify groups of microfilms.
Each GS, MS or N number entry includes a listing of the reels
available and some general information about the microfilm group.
The SUBJECT CATEGORY appears first in each entry. The next three
headings:(RECORD GROUP TITLE; SUB-GROUP HEADING; SERIES TITLE)
are the Archives' description of the records. This part of the
entry will tell you which office created the records, and
something about their contents.
The NOTES area gives more information about what is on the
microfilm reels, or about how to search the records.
To use the catalogue effectively read the introductions to the
subject categories and the NOTES area for the GS, MS or N number
you are using.
HOW DO I USE THE INTERLOAN SERVICE?
Using this catalogue, identify the number for the reel(s) you

GROUP TITLE, SUB-GROUP HEADING, SERIES TITLE, place name, and
dates. This information may be abbreviated if necessary.
Examples of information needed are:
1) MS 693 Reel 121
Ministry of Natural Resources, Lands Branch, Military Fiats
2) MS 638 Reel 3
Court Records, Surrogate Court, Hamilton,
Estate Files 126 - 195
ALL REQUESTS FOR REELS ARE PROCESSED VIA LIBRARIES/INSTITUTIONS.

THE SIGN-OUT LIMIT PER RESEARCHER IS A TOTAL OF 3 REELS.
Requests for excess reels will be held until the first 3 reels are
returned to the Archives. The loan period is TWO weeks.
You may request a renewal from your library.
If there are no outstanding requests at the Archives for this
film a two week renewal will be granted.
ONLY MICROFILM LISTED IN THIS CATALOGUE IS AVAILABLE FOR LOAN.
CAN I MAKE COPIES FROM THE MICROFILM?
There are no restrictions on copying documents from any microfilm
borrowed through the Interloan Service (unless stated in the
NOTES section). Use your library's reader/printer machine to
make copies. If your library does not have this machine, you
should order the microfilm through a library that has the
appropriate reader/printer facilities. The reels must remain
within the borrowing institution.
Microfilms listed in the catalogue are available for purchase.
This is NOT an Interloan Service function. Individuals or
institutions may request purchase of microfilm reels by writing
directly to the Archives of Ontario. See the "Archives of
Ontario Fee Schedule and Payment Policy for Microfilm Purchase
not Loan" following this introduction. Please note that the
prices have been increased.
HOW DO I GET MORE INFORMATION?
For further information about using the microfilmed records
included in this catalogue please consult published sources in
your library.
