Body
1st August, 1797 - 30th August, 1797
Abbot, Joseph - Praying for lands as a magistrate. Recommended for 1200 acres, including former grants.
Addison, Rev. Robert - Praying for a tract of about 35 acres in the township of Newark, formerly the property of John Snow, deceased, which had been promised to petitioner by Lieut. Governor Simcoe, if no claimant appeared as heir to the said John Snow. There being other claims which appear prior in right and time to that of the petitioner, the prayer of this petition cannot be granted.
Addison, Rev. Robert - Stating that he purchased from Aaron Bradt lots 72 and 73 in Newark, and praying that deeds therefore may issue in his own name. The prayer of this petition granted if the lots appear to the Surveyor General to be properly entered.
Ainse, Sally, a Shawanese Indian - Having a claim to a tract of land on the north side of the river la Tranche, extending from the entrance of the said river to the Forks - papers accompanying said petition. Before the board can form any judgement of the propriety of this claim, as the whole of this land is included in a purchase made by the King of a considerable tract from the Indian proprietors in the year 1790, seven years subsequent to the date of the grant under which the petitioner claims, it will be necessary to cause enquiry to be made into the authenticity of the documents adduced, and if such a grant had been actually made to the petitioner, into the reasons why this land ceded to her, was not reserved from the land sold to His Majesty. Ordered therefore that copies of the four papers accompanying this petition be transmitted to Colonel McKee, Deputy Superintendent General of Indian Affairs, and that he be requested to report thereon to this board, without loss of time. Ordered also that all the petitioner's former petitions, letters and other papers relating to this business be laid before the board when this petition shall again be brought forward.

Banta, who died intestate and praying that 1000 acres of his land may be assigned by deed to his widow Elizabeth Banta and the remaining 1000 acres either in the name of Isaac Davis, or in that of his wife Elizabeth. Recommended that the 2000 acres ordered to Lieut. Banta do issue to Elizabeth Banta and Elizabeth Davis in separate deeds for 1000 acres each. The president cannot confirm this distribution of the lands of the deceased who had other children living at his decease. Those who remain subjects of another state cannot inherit their father's land in this, before they become residents in this province and place themselves under the protection of His Majesty. But the president presumes he has no right to deprive them of their share of the rewards bestowed on their father for his services by their giving those rewards to others and putting out their power to benefit by them should they ever return to their allegiance. If the lands of he deceased are distributed according to the established rules of the council, the children inhabiting the province will enjoy them of course. But the President thinks there has been a precious order of council relative to the disposition of these lands which must be rescinded before any new order can take place. (Signed) Peter Russell.
