1. WILLIAM1 PUMPHREY was born January 10, 1732/33 in Prince George's County, MD, and died Bet. 1776 - 1786. He married ELIZABETH KINGSBURY Abt. 1754, daughter of JAMES KINGSBURY and ANN DEMILLIAN. She was born Abt. 1738 in Calvert COunty, MD.
Notes for WILLIAM PUMPHREY: The name William Pumfrey, age 4 on 10-Jan-1937/38, appears in Prince George's County records for Aug-1737 term when he was bound out to Samuel Waters, Sr, until the age of 21. Samuel was a well to do planter living in Patuxent Hundred, across the Pautauxant River, Calvert County. William was perforce a a part of the household, and in time would name three of his children after Water's children, Margaret, Samuel, and Rachel. The colonial census, Aug 1776 reports William's family, the only Pumphrey in Prince George Cty at that time.

Notes for ELISHA PUMPHREY: Died at the residence of his brother-in-law. He never married. Elisha enlisted during the second war with Britian in the Second Regiment, Col. William Brent;s Company of D.C. militia. When he applied for bounty land on 19-Oct-1850, at age 62, he was rejected as it was stated that he deserted on 24-Aug, three hours before the the Battle of Bladensburg.
