Part 1 – Notes
The first volume of the Registers of Bredon begins with Baptisms and Burials in 1559 and Marriages in 1562. All entries prior to 1601 are written in the same handwriting and each page is signed by the rector, Thomas Nutte, and the Churchwardens, George Smythe and William Higgins. This indicates that there was a previous register ending in 1600 which was copied in 1601.
|
At some stage after its completion the Register appears to have fallen apart and been rebound with little concern as to the order of the pages. The Register as rebound commences half way through the baptisms of 1562 and thereafter is in the following order:

The Bishops Transcripts for the Chapellry of Bredon’s Norton, also called Norton juxta Bredon have been transcribed separately to the Registers of Bredon. The entries for most of these Transcripts do not appear in the Registers of Bredon and there are frequent references to separate Registers of Norton in the Transcripts. Marriages from 1689, Burials from 1690 and Christenings from 1692 appear in the Bredon Registers and separate Bishop’s Transcripts for Norton cease in in 1692.
