Volume 1 - 1559-1662

Volume 1 of the Deerhurst registers begins in 1559. From the neatness and consistency of the handwriting it is clear that the Register is a copy of an original register made in 1598. Two Bishops Transcripts survive for this period. That of 1578 includes the weddings and burials for 1578 together with the baptisms of 1577, listed as those of 1578. The last baptism, that of William Harris is missing from the Register. The second Transcript covers the period from 1596 until mid 1599. Curiously the baptisms frequently include the name of the mother which is usually absent from the Register.

Bishops Transcripts also survive for years missing from the Register, 1638 and 1639.

There appears to be two Bishops Transcripts for 1629, but on examination one of them, although labelled as 1629 is actually for 1679.

Draft Registers

Two volumes of the original draft Parish registers, from where used to prepare the Parish Registers and
the Bishops Transcripts survive at in the Gloucestershire Archives.  Both volumes contain entries which are missing from the Parish Registers
and the Bishops Transcripts, or which have different details of names and ages.

Volume 1

This volume contains entries from 1731 to 1735 and from 1777 to 1795, as well as details of the baptisms of the children of
Richard Roberts, baptised 1736 to 1759, and William Roberts, baptised 1770 to 1781, some parish receipts and recipes.

This volumes contains entries from 1813 to 1832.
