Edward Hatton

 

In regard I am now resolved and bound for a sea voyage wherein I humblie supplicate the Almighties protection wch being hazardous and therefore the period of my life the more uncertaine, I thought it very fitt for disposition of that poore uncertaine estate wherewith God hath blessed me and these times have left me In these few words following do declare this my last Will and Testament, First for my soule and body I bequeath them into the handes of their Creator hopeing through the Meritts of my Redeemer wheresoever noe they may happen to be dissolved at the last sound of the Trumpe to be made one perfect body and to enioy perfect happines with the holy Saintes and Angells in heaven, Next for my estate which cheifly consists in bonds Whereas first there is a bond long since entred into by my brother Richard Hatton for payment of Fortie poundes unto me which I lent him in respect of his greate chardge of Children I freelie forgive him the same debt onelt payeing thereout three poundes yearlie duly and truly unto my deare mother dureing her life as way of Interest for I have not as yet receaved one peny of the debt either Principall or Interest as alsoe after my mothers decease payeing to my sister Jane Hatton if she be then liveing Tenn poundes for her and her Children And whereas there is a bond entred into by my Lady Cornwallis and by my brother William Hatton unto me for payment of Fortie poundes there being none but Twentie and five poundes wth interest remaininge unpaid I desire that bond may be put in suite against the Lady Cornwallis by my Executors hereafter named and the said debt recovered which debt I freely give to my brother William Hatton he payeing thereout Five poundes my parte of a debt for which he and I are bound to pay for my brother Thomas And whereas likewise my brother Thomas stands engaged to me by his single Bill for Sixteene poundes which is all that remaines unpaid upon that Bill being for twentie poundes in all as I take it I freely forgive him all and will that his said bill be given up to him or to his use, Item Whereas I did formerlie write to my mother to demand three poundes of my Couzen Thomas Webster and his wife which they owe me, I desire the bond may be Cancelled and given up to them of they have paid it, If the have not nor do paye it to my mother dureing her life Then I will the said bond or bill to be delivered to my brother Richard Hatton to stop in that three poundes of the tenn poundes I desired to be given to my sister Jane and her Children, And whereas I have interested my Mother dureing her life of all that my portion of goods or Legacie bequeathed unto me by my late deare Father deceased (I meane for the use of them being houshould stuffe which will yeild but litle now) and after her decease they to come to my Cousen Susan Hatton my brother Roberts only daughter I doe hereby confirme the same guift, And I further give unto my said Neece Susan Hatton Five poundes in mony to be paide to her at the age of one and twentie or day of Marriage with Interest from such time as this my will shalbe proved by my Executors Item I give to every one of my Godchildren liveing five shillings Item I give to Master Peacock of Sainte Katherines and his wife to either of them twenty shillings to dispose of as they please in Remembrance of me And I desire them if they have received the Fortie shillings which I borrowed of them from Master Bereton to deliver my Chesdt of bookes to my Executors, And that Plush Cloake whcih I left at my brother Williams house I bequeathe unto him. And as for those Clothes remayneing with John Maynard his debt of Fortie shillings being paid him the Chest of bookes before mentioned and all my other bonds bills or spcealties besides what I have alredy mentioned and all other my estate whatsoever I will, give and bequeath unto my loveing brothers William Richard and Thomas before mentioned to be equallie devided amongst them my debtes legacies and Funerall Chardges if any being first raised thereout paid and dischardged whome I make Joynt Executors of this my last nay onely will and Testament / In witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale this Twelfth day of Aprill One Thousand six hundred Fortie and five. Whatsoever my very good freind Mistris Katherine Leighe hath of mine in her keeping (lest any question of that hereafter) I have and doe freely bestowe on her wishing they might be worth her acceptance, And I doe give her Twentie shillings to buy her a Ring to weare in remembrance of me, as alsoe to Mistris Mary White the like summe for the like purpose E Hatton Read published Sealed and signed in the presence of William Blanchard vicar of Fremington in Devon Fallwar[?] Skipwith John Barnes[?] Cost Clerke

 

Probate granted at London 1 May 1647 brother and one of the Executors named in the will, probate reserved for Thomas and Richard Hatton the other Executors.
