A Soldiers Promise Can you hear me now I had to go, Please tell them how they need to know. I could not dare to bare the sight, So I got up in the midst of night. I shall not explain exactly why, I just couldn't sit and see you cry. I left you and it's sad to say, And promised to be home someday. One promise broke in all my life, It filled my heart with pain and strife. I had to go it was my time, I knew the pain would not be mine. I hope I made it plain to see, Your thoughts will always live in me. Look inside your heart my dear, I'll find you soon so have no fear.
