CSA - 2nd Texas Cavalry CO. K

This site has been created in an attempt to collect information about the confederate veterans that served in Company K of the 2nd Texas Cavalry also known as the 2nd Texas Mounted Rifles and to learn and preserve the history of the unit for future generations.

Michael Tope has recieved a history capsule containing a unit roster for company k and some of the 2nd Texas Cavalry History from the Confederate Research Center at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas.  His goal is to recieve as much information as possible about this company and the history of the men that served so that it can be submitted to Peggy Fox at the Confederate Research Center.  This center is interested in any civil war photos, photos of veterans, and information about these veterans that Mike can collect.  The Harold B. Simpson History Complex Research Center located at Hill College is perhaps the most extensive library dealing with the civil war in the southwest and houses over 5,000 books on the subject.  Click the links to find out more information about the Library and Hill College.  Please contact Michael Tope for more information about this project.

Renee Smelley is the webpage editor.  I will be posting information that is submitted to Michael Tope for this project.  If you have stories, photos, or genealogy reguarding any of the men listed on the unit roster I am interested in either linking to your information or making a webpage for you free of charge.  Please contact me for more information.

The 2nd Texas Cavlary was also known as the 2nd Texas Mounted Rifles when the regiment was first organized in 1861.  In 1862 the regiment was reorganized under the 2nd Texas Cavalry.  We have found that these men lived in counties near San Antonio, Texas when they enlisted.  We have also found that there are men that were in this unit that are not listed on the unit roster and these men most likely enlisted after 1862/1863.  Quite a few of these men also have family ties to each other.  Gathering information about this unit and the men that served will benefit future generations by preserving the history of this unit and the men that served.

If you find that you have a veteran that served in this unit please fill out the submission form.
