My family's line of descent is marked with a **.

 

Morgan L LEWIS was married to Martha REESE.  They had the following known children:

  1. William LEWIS.

  2. David LEWIS.

  3. Lucretia LEWIS.

  4. Morgan R LEWIS  (see below)

Morgan R LEWIS was born on 24 September 1815 in Muskingum or Licking County, Ohio, USA.  He was married to Margaret PARR (daughter of Richard PARR and Mary "Polly" MILLER) on 11 August 1839 in Licking County, Ohio, USA.  Margaret PARR was born on 7 July 1824 in Licking County, Ohio, USA.  They moved to Van Wert County, Ohio in 1852.  They can be found on the US census in:

  • 1840 Union Township, Licking County, Ohio
  • 1850 Licking Township, Licking County, Ohio, Household #1459
  • 1860 Washington Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, Household #339
  • 1870 Washington Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, Household #174

Morgan died on 26 May 1876 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA. Margaret appeared in the US census in Van Wert County, Ohio in

  • 1880 Hoaglin Township, Household #234

  • 1900 Tully Township, Household #282

  • 1910 Washington Township, Household #95

Margaret died on 4 January 1911 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  She was buried in Middle Point Cemetery, Van Wert County, Ohio, USA. Morgan and Margaret had the following children:

  1. Orren S LEWIS was born on 17 October 1840 in Licking County, Ohio, USA.    He was married first to Lucretia LONGWELL (daughter of George Slack LONGWELL and Maria Anna SHEETS) on 24 January 1861 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA by John N. Purdy.  Lucretia was born 26 February 1842 and died in 1897.  Orren was married second to Mary RUSSELL.  They lived in Missouri.  Orren died on 2 December 1932.  Nothing further is currently known about them.
  2. Mary LEWIS was born on 17 October 1842 in Licking County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to Henry JACOBS.  She died on 22 December 1889.
  3. Lafayette LEWIS was born on 24 June 1846 in Licking County, Ohio, USA.  He was married to Lucinda (Lucy) DIBERT (daughter of Jacob DIBERT and Eva Ann MEWHIRTER) on 22 March 1874 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA by L. F. Ross, J. P.  Lucinda (Lucy) DIBERT was born on 20 March 1848 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  Lafayette served in Civil War in the 78th Regiment, Co B, Ohio Volunteer Infantry.  He was originally a farmer upon moving to western Ohio, and became a prominent judge in Paulding County, Ohio.  His obituary stated that “He was a man of high morals and Christian ideals, and universally respected.”  Lafayette died on 24 December 1912 in Paulding County, Ohio, USA.   Lucinda died on 4 March 1937 in Van Wert, Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  Both were buried in Tomlinson (formerly Wesley Chapel) Cemetery, Union Township, Mercer County, Ohio, USA.  Section B, Row 13.  They had no children.
  4. John LEWIS was born on 19 March 1848 in Licking County, Ohio, USA.  He was married about 1888 to Sarah Catherine (Kate) LONGWELL   (daughter of George Slack LONGWELL and Maria Anna SHEETS).  John died on 2 March 1921 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  Kate died on 30 September 1929 in Van Wert County.  They were buried at Kings (aka Bethlehem) Cemetery, Harrison Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  No children.
  5. Martha Jane LEWIS (see below).
  6. Calvin LEWIS was born on 11 August 1852.  He was married to Eva "Jane" WELLS on 27 January 1889.  Eva "Jane" WELLS was born on 11 April 1869.  Calvin died on 30 October 1924 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  Jane died on 10 March 1961.  Both were buried in Middle Point Cemetery, Middle Point, Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  Calvin and Jane had the following children - Harvey LEWIS, Loy LEWIS, Katie M LEWIS, James R LEWIS, Ada M LEWIS, John Wesley LEWIS, Goldi I LEWIS, and Elmer LEWIS.
  7. Alice LEWIS was born on 6 September 1854 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to Madison BRYAN in August 1874.  She died on 19 October 1926.
  8. Lucretia LEWIS was born on 1 February 1857 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  She died young about 1859.
  9. Mars "Oreal" LEWIS was born on 24 January 1859 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA. He was married to Elizabeth (Lizzie) WARD on 4 January 1887.  She was born in August 1869.  Oreal died on 7 December 1926 in Washington Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, USA. Elizabeth died in 1937.   Both were buried in Middle Point Cemetery, Middle Point, Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  Oreal and Elizabeth had the following children:  Nadia M LEWIS and Glen C LEWIS.
  10. Artmisha LEWIS was born on 16 March 1861 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to James SHAFFER.  She died on 20 February 1937.  Artmisha and James had the following known child:  Ada M SHAFFER.
  11. Emaline LEWIS was born on 29 November 1862 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to Daily SHAFFER about 1881.  They later moved to Gratiot County, Michigan, USA.  She died on 30 January 1920.  Emaline LEWIS and Daily SHAFFER had the following children:  Delta L SHAFFER, DeEtta SHAFFER, Anna SHAFFER, Lucinda Grace SHAFFER, Fanny E SHAFFER, Paul F SHAFFER, and Fern SHAFFER.
  12. James Marion (Sanford) LEWIS was born on 13 March 1865 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  He was married first to Katie RILEY.  Sanford and Katie had the following known child - Charles E LEWIS.   Sanford was married second to Elizabeth PRICE.  Elizabeth C PRICE was born on 17 January 1862.  She died in 1928. Sanford died in July 1950.  Sanford and Elizabeth were buried in Wright Cemetery, Elgin-Converse Road, Venedocia, Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  Sanford and Elizabeth had the following known children - John B LEWIS, Louisa Margaret LEWIS, Basil Forest LEWIS, and Ralph M LEWIS.
  13. Rhoda Bell LEWIS was born on 2 March 1868 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to Allen MCGOWEN.  She died on 14 August 1943.
     

Martha Jane LEWIS was born on 16 July 1850 in Licking County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Samuel DIBERT (son of Jacob DIBERT and Eva Ann MEWHIRTER) on 2 December 1869 in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA by Rev. J. P. Jones.  Samuel DIBERT was born on 11 March 1843 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, USA.   Martha died on 5 August 1930 in Mercer County, Ohio, USA.  She was buried on 7 August 1930 in Tomlinson (formerly Wesley Chapel) Cemetery, Union Township, Mercer County, Ohio, USA.  Section B, Row 11.  For more on this family, see the Dibert Family page.
