Isaac LaRoux was born in Hopewell Township, Hunterdon (now Mercer) County, New Jersey in 1712. He married Phebe Carman, a daughter of Reverend James and Margaret Duwys-Carman. (Reverend James Carman, born in 1677 in Cape May, New Jersey was a Baptist minister who in early life was affiliated with the Quaker movement. He died 21-October-1756 and was buried at Cranbury, New Jersey). Isaac and Phebe went to Virginia in 1743 where they settled on Long Marsh, a river about three miles from Berryville, Virginia, now the county seat of Clarke County and near the David Castleman farm. They had a large family; 10 children. Jacob; John; Isaac; Elizabeth; Mary; Sarah; Rebecca; Samuel; James and Jabez.
Isaac LaRue died in March 1795. Phebe died about the beginning of 1804. Both their wills were probated in Frederick County, Virginia. They are buried in the graveyard of the old Buck Marsh meeting house near Berryville, Virginia. Two of the seven sons of David Castleman followed the children of Isaac LaRue to the Nolyn Valley in Kentucky and these families intermarried.
