Notes

There was some scandal involved in the divorce of Samuel and Helena. She filed for divorce alleging extreme cruelty and non support. He in turn sued his brother, Edgar (!) alleging alienation of affections as seen in an article below, published in the Evening State Journal and Lincoln Daily News, 23 June 1923:

SAYS BROTHER WON WIFE'S AFFECTION

Samuel McGee of College View Asks $20,000 Damages-Charges Breaking Up of Home.

Samuel McGee of College View filed an amended petition in the district court Saturday, for $20,000 damages against his brother, Edgar McGee for the alleged alienation of the affections of his wife and child.

It is alleged in the petition that Edgar McGee came to live at his brother's home about five years ago and that during that five years just passed he paid court to his brother's wife. ... It is also alleged that the brother pretended affection for the plaintiff's ten-year-old son and that he by his pretense has won the little boy away from his father.

On the first cause of action, the alienation of his wife's affections, the plaintiff seeks $10,000 damages and on the second cause of action, the turning of the son away from his father, the plaintiff seeks $10,000, making the total of $20,000 damages sought. The original petition was filed May 21, 1923.
