On 3 Jan 1875, he married Sarah Jane Hinton in Woodman County, Wisconsin. She is the daughter of Christopher and Sarah Hinton. She was born 8 Nov 1853 in North Hamptonshire, England. She died 8 Mar 1921 at the age of 67 in Lancaster, Grant, Wisconsin.

Adopted child of William Richard Linton and Sarah Jane Hinton:

1. John Chapman Linton was born 9 Dec 1876 in Grant County, Wisconsin.

Notes

In the 1880 Census John is listed as John Chapman with his relationship to William Linton listed as "Other". But in 1900 he is listed as an "adopted son".
