Carl Cassingham was born 7 Feb 1889 in Bosworth, Carroll, Missouri. He is the son of John Robinson Cassingham (Sr.) and Amanda Frances Staten. He died 15 Jul 1940 at age 51 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California. He was buried 17 Jul 1940 in the Veterans Cemetery there.

On 28 May 1917, he married Ethel Erwin Ryan in Carlsbad, Eddy, New Mexico. She is the daughter of Lawrence G. Ryan and Flora M. (unknown). She was born 16 Jul 1897 in Carlsbad, Eddy, New Mexico and died 23 Jan 1974 at age 76 in Menlo Park, San Mateo, California.

2. Dorothy Jean Cassingham was born 17 May 1920 in Mill Valley, Marin, California.

Notes

It had been reported that Carl's middle name was Staten (his mother's maiden name). But Carl's son John Lawrence tells us that his father had no middle name. "The story is - when he went in the Navy in 1918 he was asked for a middle name. He said he had none. They insisted that he at least have a middle initial, so he chose C. Eventually, someone in the Navy decided C had to stand for something. Carl said that it didn't, so they assigned him the name Cassius." He doesn't seem to have ever used the name Cassius, but his son does have a publication from 1929 in which Carl is referred to as C.C. Cassingham. And California Deaths, 1940 - 1997 and the Los Angeles National Cemetery both list his name as "Carl C. Cassingham". That all being said, the fact is he is already listed as Carl C. Cassingham in the 1910 census - before he entered the Navy.
