Congressman from Ohio's seventeenth district. He died 14 Mar 1930 at the age of 89 in Coshocton, Coshocton, Ohio. He was buried 17 Mar 1930 in South Lawn Cemetery, Coshocton, Coshocton, Ohio.

On 5 Nov 1863, he married Mary Caroline Lamberson in Coshocton County, Ohio. Caroline, as she was known, was born 15 Sep 1840 in Canal Lewisville, Ohio. She is the daughter of Samuel Lamberson and Julia A. Crowley. Mary died 30 Mar 1913 at the age of 72 in Coshocton, Coshocton, Ohio. On 1 Apr 1913 she was buried at South Lawn Cemetery, Coshocton, Coshocton, Ohio.
