William died 1 October 1925 at age 88 at home of his step-daughter/daughter-in-law Mrs. Mary Cassingham, near La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois. On 3 October 1925, he was buried at La Harpe Cemetery, La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois.

• On 18 Oct 1860, at age 23, he married Abigail Sophia Comstock , who was age 19, in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois. Abigail was born 20 Jun 1841 in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois. She is the daughter of Charles Comstock and Sophia Bonner. Abigail died 13 Feb 1885 at the age of 43 in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois and is buried at La Harpe Cemetery, La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois.
• On 5 May 1886, at age 48 (a little more than a year after Abigail’s death), William married Elizabeth Emma Bozarth, who was age 38, in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois. She is the daughter of Isaac Bozarth and Rhoda Seybold. Elizabeth was born 20 Sep 1846 in Madison County, Illinois. She had been married previously to John Wesley Stone who is the father, with her, of one child, Mary, who married her own step-brother, George Cassingham (see below). Elizabeth died in 1915 at age 68 in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois. She is buried at La Harpe Cemetery, La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois.
