Notes

In 1910, Sophia and Archibald celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The local paper noted the event as follows:
[From the Quill, Nov 15, 1910, LaHarpe Historical Society courtesy of Judy O'Flaherty]
Married Fifty Years
Mr. and Mrs. Arch Tarman, of this city, had been married fifty years on Friday, November 11, 1910 and while they themselves intended making no particular observance of the day, their many friends in the city thought differently and planned a surprise reception for them. Invitations were issued without the knowledge of the couple asking friends to call on them between the hours of 2 and 8 o'clock that day. The responses were numerous, the register showing that sixty-two friends had enjoyed the hospitality at their home that day. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served and Mr. and Mrs. Tarman were each presented with a comfortable rocking chair, $5 each in gold and other valuable presents.
Mr. and Mrs. Tarman are natives of Muskingum county, Ohio, coming to this section of Illinois in an early day. They were married at LaHarpe by Rev. Ehud Fordyce on November 11, 1860. Both have passed the three score and ten mark and are somewhat feeble owing to their advanced years. Their long lives have been full of good deeds and they enjoy the respect and esteem of all LaHarpe's people.
