Rolland 'Don' Kain HOUCKTOWN Rolland "Don" Kain, age 82, of Houcktown, died at his home at 6:45 AM Thursday, February 8, 2007. He was born in Houcktown on September 15, 1924 to the late Fred Sutter and Cecil Dale (Parish) Kain. On October 17, 1947, he married Marjorie Leeper and she preceded him in death on December 12, 2006. Surviving are: children, Ken (Charlotte) Kain of Houcktown; Caryl (Mike) Miller of Williamstown and JoAnn (Richard) Lauck of Houcktown; siblings, Richard Kain of Ada and Eldora Parkins of Houcktown; grandchildren, Kelli (Carl) Boone; Jodi Kain; Rollie (Michelle) Kain; Andrea (Brian) Kuenzli; Tami Hattery; Karrie (Nick) Kreinbrink; Heidi Miller; Andy Lauck; Greg Lauck and Ashley Lauck; and ten great-grandchildren. One brother, Max Kain preceded him in death. Don was a Past Master, 32nd Degree Mason and secretary for over 32 years of the Mt. Blanchard Masonic Lodge 519. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo. He was also a member of Houcktown United Methodist Church. Don served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe, from April 1943 to April 1946, with a rank of Tech Sergeant. He was awarded two battle stars, Rhineland and Central Europe. He also received the Good Conduct Medal with cluster, Victory Medal and Central Europe Medal. Rolland worked for Equifax for 35 years as an insurance investigator and over 30 as a supervisor, an employee of the Hancock County Board of Elections for 16 years with two years as Chairman, was very active in the Republican Party, holding the office of Central Committeeman over 35 years. He was secretary for various teams at Johnny Appleseed Bowling Lanes and also a member of the "700" Club (member who had rolled at least one 700 series). Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 11, 2007 at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Bruce Ford officiating. Burial will be in Houcktown Cemetery, where the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will be presenting full military rites. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home, where the Masonic Service will commence at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, Cancer Patient Services or Houcktown United Methodist Church in his memory.
