Roberta M. (Hale) Sterner Obituary

Roberta M. Sterner, 83, of Augusta, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Heartland Health Center in Battle Creek.

She was born June 15, 1920, in Wilber, Washington, the daughter of Robert James and Eva May (Cassingham) Hale. She graduated from high school in Millwood, Washington in 1939.

On October 3, 1942, Roberta married Norman P. Sterner in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was stationed with the U. S. Army Air Corps. Later, they both attended Bob Jones University where Roberta graduated in 1948 and Norman in 1949.

She was a Third Grade Teacher, and also had worked in various department stores, while Mr. Sterner worked in a civilian position with the U. S. Air Force. His work brought them to Battle Creek from Utah in 1975.

Roberta was active with churches in Augusta and Richland, and enjoyed mission work.

On October 19, 2003, Norman preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Eleanor Sterner and a brother, James C. Hale.

Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, David and Barbara Sterner of Richland, Pennsylvania, grandchildren Matthew Sterner and Shelly Sterner.

Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2004, officiated by Pastor Jim Luedeman.

Interment will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
