James Quayle Cannon

James Quayle Cannon died Saturday, July 10, 1999, in Salt Lake City, from the effects of a brain tumor (glioblastoma multiforme).

Jamie was born on June 20, 1944, in Salt Lake City, the eldest of the six children of D. James and Elaine Anderson Cannon. He is survived by his mother and sisters Carla, Susan C. McOmber, and Holly C. Metcalf, as well as the extended Cannon and Anderson families. He was preceded in death by his father, his sister Christine, and his brother Anthony J. Cannon. He married Christine Jacobsen (deceased) in the Salt Lake Temple in 1967. Their three sons Adam, Peter, and Jared Cannon survive with their spouses and children, in addition to members of the extended Jacobsen family.

In 1975, Jamie married Rebecca Russell in the Salt Lake Temple, and she survives with their seven children Thomas, Emily, Briton, Catherine, Bradley, William, and Jon and the extended Russell family.

Jamie faithfully served The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a missionary in Germany from 1963-65. His warm smile, his genuine interest in others, and his non-judgmental demeanor strengthened and inspired those within his influence in the various callings that he fulfilled during his lifetime. A friend described him as one who "responded righteously" to all life's challenges and opportunities.

He received a graduate degree in urban planning from M.I.T., but the focus of his professional life was in the health care industry. He provided a legacy of health care quality leadership regionally and nationally. His life's work was dedicated to collaboration and continuous learning among health care providers, policy makers, consumers, and business leaders.

Family and friends will gather Tuesday evening, July 13, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. at the Garner Funeral Home at 1001 11th Avenue.

Prior to the funeral service the family will gather for prayer at 11:40 a.m. at the Federal Heights chapel.

Funeral: Wednesday, July 14, 1999, 1 p.m., Federal Heights Chapel (Fairfax Road and Virginia Street).

Burial: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
