William Russell

William A. Russell, 78, 645 N. Main St., Celina, died at 4:20 p.m. Dec. 6, 2003, at his residence.

He was born June 20, 1925, in Bowling Green, to Edward Freeman and Ariel Taylor Russell. On May 12, 1946, he married Helen A. Coats and she survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Rebecca Cannon, Salt Lake City, Utah, Viki Shaffer, Celina, Peggy Jo (Dale) Borts, Dayton, and Jane Davis, Gig Harbor, Wash.; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a son-in-law, James Q. Cannon, and a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Joan and David Russell.

He operated his own trucking business for 26 years and was a salesman for Kenworth Trucks for 20 years before retiring in 1986. A 1943 graduate of Celina High School, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Asian-Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina, and the Family Motor Coach Association.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
