Archibald Tarman The death of Archibald S. Tarman last Wednesday evening at 9:30, July 23, 1919, removed from our midst one of LaHarpe's most estimable citizens and a man who date his residence in this vicinity from pioneer days. He was 80 years, 4 months and 1 day old when death claimed him, and while he had been in failing health a long time, was about the house as usual during the day and only began to feel worse a few hours preceding death. The end came peacefully-like a child turning to sleep. Archibald Tarman was a son of George and Mary (Spicer) Tarman, and was born March 22, 1839, at Dresden, Muskingum County, Ohio. He was the youngest of nine children and the last to die. He came to this vicinity in 1857 and was married to Sophia Cassingham on November 17, 1860. Three daughters were born to them, all of whom preceded the father in death. Blanche died in 1880, Alice in 1897 and Letha in 1901. The aged wife is left to mourn the loss of a worthy companion. The record shows that they lived happily together for more than 58 years. They lived for many years on a farm near LaCrosse but sold the place about 22 years ago and moved to town. Mr. Tarman united with the M.P. church in an early day, first belonging to an organization holding services in a school house, near LaCrosse, but upon coming to town he and his wife transferred to the church here and later became members of the Union church. Mr. Tarman has lived a true Christian life, quiet and unassuming, yet always standing for all that he considered the best for the……….. [Remainder of clipping gone] |
