Merle Martin Henderson Obituary

HENDERSON, Merle Martin, 89, passed away very suddenly on September 25, 2004 in Tucson, AZ. He was born in Eureka, CA on June 24, 1915, and was the only son of an only son. After a 40+ year career with Caterpillar Tractor Company in San Leandro, CA, he retired in 1976. He moved to South Lake Tahoe with his loving first wife, Rhoda, who predeceased him in 1985 after 47 years of marriage. There he was a volunteer at the Barton Memorial Hospital giving over 5,000 hours of service. He enjoyed cooking and traveling, and visited Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji Islands, Asia and Mexico. He was fortunate in life to have remarried in 1988 and share the twilight years of his life with his loving and devoted wife of 16 years, Hazel, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons, Gary (Sue) of Tucson, AZ and Tim (Vicky) of Tracy, CA; his stepdaughter, Charlotte (Jim Macfee) of Vancouver, WA; four grandchildren, Lori (Mike Guerrero) of Albany, OR, Janice (Jim Fisher) of Castro Valley, CA, David (Heather) Henderson of Clayton, CA, Jennifer (Chad Smith) of Lubbock, TX; eight greatgrandchildren, Jessica, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Joshua, Kayla, Blake, Cameron and Devon. Merle will be missed by all who knew and loved him. At his request no formal services will be held. Donations can be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
