Virgil Clifford Wagoner (Sr.) is the son of Valaria Hadassah Edwards and Walter David Wagoner. He was born 23 February 1901 in Graham county, Kansas. He died in November 1971 at age 70 in Longmont, Boulder, Colorado.

On 26 August 1925, he married Rose Evelyn Thompson in Stockton, Rooks, Kansas. She is the daughter of Charley H. Thompson and Sarah Ellen Williams. She was born 26 April 1906 in Edmond, Norton, Kansas. She died 21 July 2004 at age 98 in Longmont, Boulder, Colorado.
