Amanda Rhodes is the daughter of Mary Edwards and Elias Rhodes. She was born 22 March 1846 in Liberty, Fairfield, Ohio. She died 10 April 1919 at age 73 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska. She is buried at Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska.

• On 25 September 1868, one month after her sister Sarah's wedding, she married Andrew Jackson Sheldon in Fairfield county, Ohio. He is the son of David Sheldon and Sarah Salome Stonebraker and the brother of Samuel Sampson Sheldon who married Amanda's sister Sarah. Andrew was born 2 June 1845 in Ohio. He died 12 May 1912 at age 66.

2. Mary Jeanette Sheldon was born 4 December 1867 in Brookfield, Linn, Missouri.
3. William Henry Sheldon was born 8 February 1869 in Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska. He died 26 October 1878 at age 9.
4. Zyrenna Ella Sheldon was born 19 May 1871 in Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska.
5. Emeline Sheldon was born 11 October 1873 in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska. She died 10 May 1878 at age 4 in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska.
6. Herbert A. Sheldon was born 12 November 1877 in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska. He died in May 1878 at age 5 months in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska.
7. Canvira Anna Sheldon was born 8 April 1879 in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska.
8. Mabel Blanche Sheldon was born 20 February 1881 in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska.
9. Grover Cleveland Sheldon was born 2 April 1883 in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska.
10. Kathryn Sheldon was born 26 April 1885 in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska.

Notes

The first two children were born two months apart. There is some suggestion that one or both of these may have been adopted children. If not, at least one of the birthdates must be wrong.

Three of the children died in 1878 (two of them in the month of May). What an awful year that must have been for the family.
