Robert E. Fike

LEIPSIC. Robert Eugene Fike, 84, of Leipsic, died 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, Oh.

He was born January 22, 1923 in Leipsic, Oh, to the late Ernest W. and Edna M. (Reimund) Fike. On January 29, 1946 in Montpelier, Oh, he married Clara Marie Purnell and she survives in Leipsic. Also surviving is a daughter: Nell Ann Fike of Elyria; and a sister: Betty (Richard) Bellman of Leipsic. He was preceded in death by a sister: Helen Binger.

Bob was a mortician and had retired as area manager-container manufacturing equipment maintenance for Campbell Soup, Napoleon.

He was a member of Leipsic United Methodist Church and a former Chairman of the Trustees and a former Trustee of the Church and Sunday school Superintendent.

He was a WWII Army veteran with the 383rd Anti-aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, a member of Leipsic VFW and American Legion.

He was also a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 325 for over 50 years, Ottawa; former Leipsic Arbor Society; Anthony Wayne Court of the Order of the Amarantha; Friends of the Library; Leipsic Senior Citizens.

Bob displayed and sold his woodworking at the Juried Fine Arts and Craft shows and Juried Woodworking shows; was a 1949 graduate of Cincinnati School of Embalming; member of Ohio Funeral Director Association for over 50 years, member of Districts 1 and 7 of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association; he received the award for excellence in 1983 from Campbell Soup Co., he was extremely active with Putnam County Red Cross blood drives and played Santa for many years for many groups and raised and sold Christmas trees.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2007 at Leipsic United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Bushong officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic with military rites by Leipsic VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today and 2:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic where there will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
