Delbert Allen Eddy Delbert Allen Eddy passed away April 6 at North Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Loveland. He was 94. Delbert was born Oct. 25, 1913 in Centerville, Kan. to Ora E. Eddy and Zella Jane Leard Eddy. He graduated in 1932 from Bevier High School in Bevier, Mo. After graduation, Delbert worked at his father's gas station in Bevier, and then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, which took him to upper Minnesota, where he worked as a lumberman. After his tour of duty ended with the corps, Delbert returned home to Bevier. In 1934, the Eddy family moved to Silt, where he did numerous jobs. It was there in Silt while working at the gas station he met Fern Edwards, the love of his life. After a very short courtship, they were married on May 16, 1935 in New Castle. After their marriage, Delbert secured employment as a truck driver during the road construction through Glenwood Canyon, drove truck for Climax Molybdenum Co. and then again at one of Rifle's gas stations. Delbert and Fern moved to San Diego, Calif. at the beginning of World War II, where he worked in a defense plant assembling the B-24 aircraft until the war ended. In 1949, they returned to Silt where he was a beekeeper with Fern's father and a part-time butcher with Delbert's father during hunting season. In 1955, the family moved to Glenwood Springs, where he worked in a locker plant and later became a newspaper distribution manager for the Denver Post. In 1956, they relocated to Grand Junction, where he was promoted by the Denver Post to manage a larger distributorship. In 1958, he left the Denver Post to become the circulation manager for the Morning Sun, a local Grand Junction newspaper. After the Morning Sun stopped their presses, Delbert returned once more to the Denver Post and was soon promoted again, this time as district manager of Colorado's Western Slope and Eastern Utah. Delbert left the Denver Post in late 1968 and went to work selling used cars for the Chevrolet dealer in Grand Junction. He later worked for Cox Motors and then Bob Moore Motors. After retirement, Delbert enjoyed playing golf daily, tending his backyard garden, watching NFL football and reading. His greatest joy was seeing his family grow and prosper. Without being prompted, he would proudly tell you about each one of them and of their accomplishments. Delbert and Fern relocated to the Fort Collins-Loveland area in 1993 to be near their children and their families. In May 2007, Delbert and Fern celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Delbert was preceded in death by an infant son, Raymond; daughter, Marilyn Eddy Losey; young sister, Hazel; brother, Herman H. Eddy; and his sister, Nadine Nelson. Delbert is survived by his wife, Fern of Loveland; son, D. Allan (Janet) Eddy of Fort Collins; daughter Linda (Harold) Kehr of Loveland, son-in-law, Dennis Losey of Boulder; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends. |
