Attorney Lawrence Smith

Attorney Lawrence A. Smith, Sr. , who resides at 108 Viaduct Road, Savanna, states that his father, Richard D. Smith, built the home at that address in 1905 when Lawrence, Sr. was one year old, from native, rough-sawed lumber from the wood and kitchen mill at Plum River, then being razed.

Attorney Smith, after starting his law practice in Rockford, returned to Savanna in 1937, where he has served as attorney for the Savanna park board for 31 years, also Savanna city attorney. He was State's Attorney from 1948 to 1952. He is a senior member of a three-member law firm with his sons, Lawrence, Jr., village attorney for Shannon and Thomson, and Richard K., who is the present Savanna city attorney and vice-president of the county bar association.
