On 21 December 1854, at age 21, he married Rebecca Tipton Watson, who was age 19, at the bride's home in Monroe county, West Virginia (though it was then just Virginia). She is the daughter of George Watson and Nancy Ann (unknown). She was born 11 February 1835 in Monroe county, West Virginia (then called Virginia). She died just over a month before her husband, on 4 May 1913 at age 78 in Sinks Grove, Monroe, West Virginia. She is buried at Scott Family Cemetery, Sinks Grove, Monroe, West Virginia.
