Ashby Angus Scott is the son of Cornelius Stephen Scott and Elizabeth Ann Carraway. He was born 29 July 1885 in Sinks Grove, Monroe, West Virginia. He died 23 June 1964 at age 78 in Ronceverte, Greenbrier, West Virginia. He was buried 25 June 1964 at Sinks Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Sinks Grove, Monroe, West Virginia.

He was age 39 when on 28 January 1925 he married Vida Mae Hinkle, who was age 21, in Union, Monroe, West Virginia. She is the daughter of James William Hinkle and Minnie Belle Hedrick. She was born 23 June 1903 in Monroe county, West Virginia. She died in January 1984 at age 80 in Sinks Grove, Monroe, West Virginia. She is buried at Sinks Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Sinks Grove, Monroe, West Virginia.
