He was age 49 when he married Christine Coffman, who was age 28, on 29 April 1953. She is the daughter of Earl Coffman and Mildred Johnson. She was born 12 December 1924 in Lewisburg, Greenbrier, West Virginia. She died 1 December 2008 at age 83 in Fairlea, Greenbrier, West Virginia. She was buried 4 December 2008 at Coffman Cemetery, Ronceverte, Greenbrier, West Virginia.
