Genevieve Upton is the daughter of Ethel Virginia Milburn and John Paris Upton (Sr.). She was born about 1913 in West Virginia.

About 1928, at about age 15, she married Gideon T. Johnson, who was about age 20. He is the son of Thomas J. Johnson and Anna Laurie Brabb. He was born 10 August 1907 in Michigan. He died in January 1979 at age 71 in Hinton, Summers, West Virginia.
