James Lake Burdette is the son of Semma Ramus Scott and Lewis Allen Burdette. Usually known as Lake, he was born 2 December 1883 in West Virginia. He died 2 March 1952 at age 68.

On 17 June 1908, at age 24, he married Carrie Ruth Foster, who was age 27, at her parents' home in Monroe county, West Virginia. She is the daughter of Oliver Harrison Foster and Mary Ann Elizabeth Barton and the sister of John Elbert Foster who married James' sister, Georgia. She was born in July 1880 in Brush Creek, Monroe, West Virginia. She died 21 November 1952 at age 72 in Sinks Grove, Monroe, West Virginia. She was buried 23 November 1952 at Alderson Cemetery, Alderson, Greenbrier, West Virginia.

1. Oliver Dennis Burdette was born 26 October 1909 in West Virginia. He died 8 September 1939 at age 29 in Hinton, Summers, West Virginia. On 10 September 1939, he was buried at Alderson Cemetery, Alderson, Greenbrier, West Virginia.

   • She married Frederick E. Czadzeck. He is the son of John Czadzeck and Minnie. He was born 7 February 1917 in Michigan. He died 17 August 1993 at age 76 in Wyandotte, Wayne, Michigan. On 20 August 1993, he was buried at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, Wayne, Michigan.
5. Cornelia Burdette was born about 1919 in West Virginia.
