John Fred Gaff is the son of John Wesley Gaff and Abby Celeste Ott. He was born 13 November 1908 in Albion, Noble, Indiana. He died 20 February 1982 at age 73.

On 29 March 1930, at age 21, he married Julia Krebs, who was age 26, in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas, Ohio. She is the daughter of Omar Daniel Krebs and Emma M. Meyer. She was born 17 March 1904 in Ohio. She died 19 February 1974 at age 69 in Pinellas county, Florida.
