Carol Cosby Scott is the daughter of Charles Cosby Scott and Margaret Ann MacAdam. She was born 26 September 1933 in Clarksburg, Harrison, West Virginia. She died 26 February 2002 at age 68 in Tucson, Pima, Arizona.

On 23 December 1955 at age 22, she married Carl Patrick Laughlin in Clarksburg, Harrison, West Virginia. Patrick, as he is known, is the son of Carl Adam Laughlin and Frances Ann Knee. He was born 28 September 1931 in Parkersburg, Wood, West Virginia. He died 14 November 2016 at age 85 in Williamsburg, James, Virginia. This marriage ended in divorce in 1985.
