On 25 August 1907, at age 22, he married Martha Eva Whitt, who was age 22, in Person county, North Carolina. She is the daughter of Peter Poole Whitt and Eliza Ellen Gravitt. She was born 4 July 1885 in Person county, North Carolina. She died 7 August 1939 at age 54 in Black Walnut, Halifax, Virginia. She was buried 10 August 1939 at Shady Grove Cemetery, Virgilina, Halifax, Virginia.
