Helen Louise Hively is the daughter of Floyd Alon Hively and Florence Elizabeth Rumer. She was born 1 August 1910 in Alliance, Box Butte, Nebraska. She died 27 February 1988 at age 77 in Ogden, Weber, Utah. Her remains were cremated.

She married Harold Wilson Ritchey. He is the son of Glen Robert Richey and Mabel Ann Wilson. He was born 5 October 1912 in Kokomo, Howard, Indiana. Harold is considered the "father of solid-propellant rocketry" (see his obituaries). He died 2 March 2002 at age 89 in Ogden, Weber, Utah.
