Descendants of Peter Shriner
[Columbia City Commercial-Mail, Whitley County, Indiana, Wednesday October 10, 1928] Death claimed Hugh Madison Sherwood at 3:35 o'clock Wednesday morning after he had been ill six years with diabetes and had been confined to his bed for the past five years. Mr. Sherwood spent his entire life in and around Columbia City and was specially interested in horticulture, having owned a greenhouse for many years. Hugh Madison Sherwood died on his 70th birthday having been born on October 10, 1858 in Columbia City. His parents were James and Mary Jones Sherwood. He was married to Elimira Otis Pumphrey on November 25, 1879. His widow survives together with a foster son, Forest Baker of Hinsdale, Mont. Two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Sickafoose of North Chauncey Street and Mrs. H. J. Messner of Thorncreek twp are the only other surviving relatives. One sister died a number of years ago. Mr. Sherwood was a member of the Maccabee Order. He had many friends in Columbia City and the surrounding region and was always held in high esteem. No funeral arrangements have yet been made. |
