[Borger Daily Herald, Borger, TX, July 12, 1929] PANHANDLE, July 12 (Special) - Charles Johnson, 22, of Panhandle, died early today in an Amarillo hospital and I.N. Jones of Wink, is in the county jail here charged with careless and negligent homicide following a collision on the Panhandle-Borger highway two miles north of Panhandle at 9 o'clock last night, in which Johnson was fatally injured. According to reports, Johnson was riding a motorcycle on the pavement toward Borger, at the time the accident occurred. It was alleged that his machine crashed with a Ford car driven without lights by Jones, accompanied by H.C. Scott, of Fort Worth. Following the crash, Johnson was taken in an ambulance to the Amarillo hospital, where he died early this morning. Funeral services for the young man will be held in Panhandle at 10:30 o'clock tomorrow morning. Johnson was the son of A.T. Johnson, and the nephew of J.F. Ellis, of Panhandle. Jones was taken to the Carson county jail immediately following the smashup, where he is being held pending action of the grand jury which meets in about two weeks. |
