DONALD B. SAWHILL

Donald B. Sawhill, 61, a retired private investment broker whose office was in Downtown Pittsburgh, died of heart disease Monday while vacationing in Delray Beach, Fla.

Mr. Sawhill, of Shadyside, became a private broker in 1975. Before opening his own office, he was executive vice president of Moore, Leonard and Lynch, a Downtown investment brokerage firm. He also was an officer with Sawhill Tubular Products Corp. until the company was taken over by Cyclops Corp. in 1968.

He graduated from Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts and from Princeton University in 1951. At Princeton, Mr. Sawhill was a member of the Key and Seal Club. He was a lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War.

A 32nd degree Mason, Mr. Sawhill was a member of Shadyside Presbyterian Church, the Duquesne Club, the University Club, and the Harvard-Yale-Princeton Club. He also was a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club and the Chappaquiddick Beach Club, both in Massachusetts.

Mr. Sawhill was a former member of the Sharon Country Club, the board of trustees of Winchester-Thurston School in Shadyside, and the Epilepsy Foundation. He was also a former member of the Youngstown Club in Youngstown, Ohio, and the Princeton Club in New York.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Monroe Sawhill; a son, Donald V. Sawhill II of Napa, Calif.; a daughter, Martha S. Ivy of Seattle, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Leigh Monroe Franks and Anne Franks Gillespie, both of Highland Park; a stepson, Russell Minor Franks III of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, June Sawhill Proctor of Greenwich, Conn.; and four step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church, Amberson Avenue, Shadyside. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the main sanctuary of the church. Private burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Sharon.
