Foster, George Herman Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church, Gadsden, for George Herman Foster Jr., 81, Rainbow City, who passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008. The Rev. Craig Boden will officiate, with a later burial at Alderson Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Trussler Fellowship Hall.

George was a native of Alderson, Monroe County, W.Va. He was born on Aug. 7, 1926. He attended the following schools: Alderson High School, Class of 1944; West Virginia Tech; Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics; and West Virginia University. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served stateside and overseas in Europe. He worked for Allis-Chalmers and moved to Alabama in 1955. In his later years, he worked for the Field Service Division and literally worked and traveled around the world.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George H. Foster Sr. and Pauline Gwinn Foster; and his wife, Barbara Varley Foster.

He is survived by his children, Susan (Craig) Boden, George H. "Buddy" (Cindy) Foster and Virginia "Ginny" (Jeff) Davis; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
