Hazel Josephine (Chapman) Fisher Obituary

Hazel J. Fisher, 82, a resident of Columbia City, died at 3:55 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2004 at the Oaks Living Center in Columbia City where she had been a resident since October 2002.

Born Oct. 10, 1921 in Thorncreek Township,Whitley County, a daughter of Earl and Nellie (Black) Chapman, she graduated from Columbia City High School in 1939.

On May 9, 1942, she was united in marriage to Dale E. Fisher and they always made their home in Columbia city, moving to their present home in 1949.

A homemaker, she assisted her sister, Jeanette Myers in the Whitley County Recorders office. She was a member of Columbia City Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include her husband, Dale; four daughters, Rose Anne (Charles) Barnum of Kendallville; Connie (James) Bedwell and Jean (Max) LeFever, both of Columbia City; and Sally (Gary) Maggart of South Whitley; Two sons, Thomas D. Fisher of Columbia City; and William G. Fisher of Pierceton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Carol Schinbeckler of Greenfield; Helen Orcutt of Fort Wayne; Hilda Diffendarfer of Fort Wayne; Jeanette Myers of Columbia City and Donna Putman of South Haven Mich.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; a brother William S. Chapman; and a sister Ethel Knisely.

The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Friday March 12, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City, with the Rev. Dennis Beckner of Columbia City Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial is at Nolt Cemetery, Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
