MRS. HENRY EGOLF CALLED HENCE
The death of Mrs. Henry S. Egolf, a pioneer woman of Thorncreek township occured Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the home of her son Marion Egolf, and resulted from dropsy with which she had been confined to her bed since last March. She sustained a stroke of paralysis a year ago last April, but recovered from it sufficiently to get around again, only to be taken ill last March. Her maiden name was Malinda Garrison, a daughter of Zach and Anna (Ruckman) Garrison, deceased, and she was born December 15, 1836 in Richmond county, Ohio, being 74 years, 6 months, and 19 days of age. She came to Whitley county when a child with her parents and was united in marriage to Henry S. Egolf, who died just last winter, November 30, 1910. Their Union occurred Sept. 7, 1855, and thirteen children were born to them, four surviving; Marion Egolf, of Thorncreek township; Alonzo Egolf, Smith township; Mrs. Zilpha Fisher, of Thorncreek and Mrs. Eliza Jane Lore of this city. Five brothers and three sisters also survive her; William and Ruckman Garrison of Fort Wayne; Levi Garrison, of Union township, and Zach and Peter Garrison of Smith township. She was a life long member of the Church of God, and a pioneer who went through the trials and hardships of an early age, and who was loved and respected by her family and neighbors alike. Her life work is done, and death has ended her suffering. In their sorrow the sympathy of all is extended the bereft ones. The funeral will occur Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Egolf Church in Thorncreek township, by Rev. L.A. Luckenbill officiating. Interment in the Egolf cemetery. |
