SHEILA MCCARTHY KORNBLUM
Sheila Kornblum, who passed away peacefully on July 9th, moved with her family to the Santa Ynez Valley in 1948. She graduated from Santa Ynez Valley Union High School in 1952, and then received a BA in Communications from the University of California at Berkeley in 1957. During this time she met her husband of 52 years, Alan D. Kornblum. She was an elementary school teacher for 10 years, then received a Master's Degree in Education from University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1978. In 1980, Sheila entered law school in California, graduating from Santa Barbara College of Law in 1983. During law school she worked in her mother, Elizabeth H. McCarthy's law firm, where she became a full partner after passing the Bar Exam. The law firm of Mccarthy and Kornblum was joined by Sheila's daughter, Jennifer Kornblum, in 1997. This was the first three-generation female law firm in California. McCarthy and Kornblum remained in operation until Sheila retired in 2005. Sheila and Alan have four children: Matthew, in Florida; Elizabeth of La Canada, California; Jennifer in Missouri; and Avian, who resides in Solvang, CA. They have seven grandchildren, and a great-grandchild due in August. She is also survived by her brother Frank (Casey) McCarthy, and sister Florence (Kiki) McCarthy. A brother, Brian, predeceased her in 2006. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 1:00pm at Loper Funeral Chapel/Ballard Country Church in Ballard, CA. |
