Malcolm G. Miller Malcolm G. Miller, 92, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at the Deaconess Hospital after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Archibald and Jesse Miller, of Latham, Kan.,and brother of Ray Miller, Mary Ruth Hackney, and Joan McCool, who predeceased him, and Betty Jean Maurer, and Stan and Norman Miller. He was married for 65 years to the late Helen O'Connell Miller and is survived by his four children, Brian, of Cambridge, Mass., Joan Levy, of Fall's Church, Va., Michael, of Acton, Mass., and Peter, currently of Evansville, and three grandchildren, Samuel Miller, Seah Levy and Matthew C. Miller. Mack was an independent, intelligent, generous, and principled man with a wide swath of competence. After graduating from the University of Kansas, he served in the Signal Corps in the Panama Canal Zone and then worked as an electrical engineer for the Westinghouse Corporation until his early retirement.His later life passions were the stock market and the continuation of a lifetime of hard work. He was seen on his roof cleaning his gutters as recently as Thanksgiving. Throughout his life, Mack put his values into action in political life and community service.He volunteered his time and interest in mathematical puzzles while tutoring youngsters from the city who were struggling with school. He kept in touch with friends and family through mailings of those same puzzles and myriad articles of interest. Mack earned the respect of all who witnessed his constant industry and his unwavering commitment to his values. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at Patchwork Central, 100 Washington Ave., Evansville, IN 47713, with donations welcome to Patchwork. Gilham Family Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. |
